Avocado Smoothies

Avocado smoothies are just amazing. So rich, decadent, creamy, and so good for you! Loaded with lutein to protect your eyes, fibre to keep you full, healthy fats to keep you satisfied, and a variety of nutrients (Vitamins B5, B6, C, E, & K, potassium, and folate), what’s not to love?

The oleic acid (fat) in avocados has many health benefits, and may have anti-inflammatory/ anti-cancer effects. Avocados can lower LDL (supposedly bad) cholesterol and tryglicerides, blood pressure, and can increase the nutrient absorption when eaten with other foods (increasing the amount of antioxidants you absorb).

I have made many an avocado shake – chocolate, peanut butter, vanilla, yoghurt, cinnamon, berry – and loved them all. Indeed, it may be my favourite smoothie flavour!

This morning I treated myself to an extra-large avocado smoothie made with 2/3 an avocado, but 1/2 will make a pretty decent (and standard) serving. I topped mine with Brazil nuts, chia and pumpkin seeds, goji berries, and cinnamon.
